The Nigeria security and civil defence corps (NSCDC), Niger state command has arrested five suspects over illegal mining activities in Minna.

The four alleged illegal miners and one suspected dealer were apprehended during a joint operation at mining sites around the 3 Arm Zone along the Western Bypass and at Caterigwari Mechanic Village in Minna.

The Information Officer of the Ministry for Mineral Resources, Dibie Maureen confirmed the arrests. She said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on unregulated mining in the state.

The government is determined to curb illegal mining and protect the states mineral resources from exploitation by unlicensed operators, Maureen said.
