Fast food restaurant McDonald’s and NFT project Doodles have partnered to run the “GM Spread Joy” campaign. The campaign will involve McDonald’s serving their customers with cups bearing artwork inspired by the NFT project. Lucky participants will earn the right to access animated content on the restaurant’s app and receive virtual wearable items like a McDonald’s digital apparel among other rewards, showing that conventional entities are looking for ways to connect with the virtual world.
Promotion Open to U.S. Customers
The campaign will recognize participation from McDonald’s customers who purchase a McCafe hot drink on the restaurant’s app. Apart from accessing the restaurant’s content, other rewards include tickets “to stream Doodles’ pilot, Dullsville, and the Doodleverse.”
The promotion is open to McDonald’s customers in the United States and will open on November 18. McDonald’s will also offer its customers access to the song “Good Mornin,” produced by former McDonald’s employee Pharell Williams.
According to McDonald’s Tariq Hassan, the restaurant chose Doodles “because they are an agent of change in the cultural landscape,” adding that the NFT project has expanded beyond the collectibles space to the entertainment world.
McDonald’s Already in the Virtual World
The cooperation comes five months after the fast food giant unveiled a metaverse platform for its Singaporean customers. Known as “My Happy Place,” it allows users to create food items.
It also comes four months after Doodles launched Doodles TV . Powered by Ethereum layer 2 Base, the platform focuses on unique content and events. McDonald’s continued exploration of the virtual world comes when similar businesses like Starbucks have indicated plans to exit the NFT world.
With McDonald’s partnering with Doodles, it’s to be seen whether the partnership will have a positive impact on the two entities’ user base.
