The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is urging all dealers and owners of mining and construction equipment to report any change in ownership within 14 days of a sale.

This directive follows the Road Traffic Regulation, 2012 (L.I 2180), which requires prompt notification of ownership changes.

The DVLA warns that failure to comply may result in legal consequences.

The Authority has raised concerns about the frequent neglect by individuals and companies to update ownership records after selling heavy equipment. This oversight affects the ability to properly track and regulate such machinery.

To address this, the DVLA has started registering mining and construction equipment in the names of dealers and importers at various ports of entry.

The next step, it says, is ensuring that ownership is transferred promptly after each sale.

“Any dealer or owner who fails to comply will face the full rigours of the law. We encourage all parties involved to visit the nearest DVLA office and complete the necessary steps to update equipment records,” the DVLA stated.

The Authority also reassured stakeholders of its dedication to providing smooth and efficient services throughout this process.

It called on businesses in the mining and construction sectors to act responsibly and uphold the law.

Quick action not only helps avoid legal penalties but also supports transparency and safety in equipment management.
